Basketball season is just around the corner, and the Hampton-Dumont-CAL boys basketball team will be led by new head coach Matt Lokenvitz this season. Lokenvitz is taking over for Brian Niesen, who was at the helm for the previous three season. Coach Lokenvitz spoke on the type of play and culture he wants to bring to the basketball program.

Winter sports have begun at Hampton-Dumont-CAL, and the Bulldogs girls basketball team is ready to begin the season. The Bulldogs are coming off a very successful season last year, as they finished 21-3 and made it to the regional finals. The Bulldogs will be losing a lot of key pieces from last season's team, including four starters who have since graduated.

The West Fork boys basketball team will begin their season next week and will be looking to improve on an 11-12 season last year. The Warhawks are lead by head coach Abraham Maske, and they will be losing six seniors from last season's team, including all five of their regular starters. Despite losing a lot of production, coach Maske is excited to see this year's team grow.

The West Fork girls basketball season is underway, and the Warhawks will look to have similar success to their historical season last year. Last season, the Warhawks finished with an impressive 20-4 record and a 13-1 record in Top of Iowa East Conference play before being eliminated by Central Lyon in the regional finals.

Twelve members of the West Fork football team were selected to the district A-2 All-District teams. Seven players were selected to the first team, with seniors Dax Suntken, Parker Sheriff and Braydon Smit selected to the first team offense, and seniors Owen Schmidt, Jack Watters, junior Braylon Schreckengost and freshman Hayden Freyholtz selected to the first team defense.

Two members of the West Fork volleyball team, senior Abby Schoning and sophomore Zada Huff, were selected to the Top of Iowa East All-Conference teams. Schoning was selected to the second team all-confe3rnce while Huff was selected to the honorable mentions team.

As the calendar turns to November, winter sports are beginning to start practice, and that includes the West Fork girls wrestling team. The Warhawks will be returning five players from last years roster as sophomore Lily Baker, sophomore Josi Janssen, junior Kaylee LaFrankie, sophomore Autumn Wood and senior Jennifer Ramirez all wrestled on last year's team.

Two members of the Hampton-Dumont-Cal volleyball team, juniors Madison Heilskov and Maren Subbert, were selected to the North Central Conference All-Conference teams. Heilskov was selected to the first team all-conference, and Subert was selected to the third team all-conference. Bulldogs' head coach, Sarah Miller, spoke about how proud she was of both girls.
 
 

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls wrestling team will begin just their second season as a program in November. Last year was the inaugural season for the Bulldogs after being apart of the West Fork team the years prior. The Bulldogs roster will increase from nine wrestlers last season to 16 wrestlers this season, including returning seven wrestlers from last year's roster.

SAINT ANSGAR - West Fork football's incredible season came to an end with a 53-20 loss to the Saint Ansgar Saints in the second round of the class A state playoffs on Friday, October 31. Despite the loss, the Warhawks had the most successful season in program history. The Warhawks finished the season with seven wins, the most in program history, and made it the furthest they ever has in the state playoffs.

OSAGE - Hampton-Dumont-CAL football lost 27-7 to the Osage Green Devils on Friday, October 31, to bring their season to an end. It was a successful season for the Bulldogs, as they hosted and won their first state playoff game since 2015. Head coach of the Bulldogs, Cole Miller, reflected on the Bulldogs season.

FORT DODGE - Freshman on the West Fork girls' cross country team, MaKenna Dick, finished in 66th place overall out of 100 runners in the class 1A state cross country meet in Fort Dodge on Saturday, November 1. Dick finished the race with a time of 21 minutes, 13.4 seconds. Dick on her performance in the meet.

DUBUQUE - Former Hampton-Dumont-CAL (HDCAL) cross country runner Lydia Maas finished in sixth place in the American Rivers Conference (ARC) Cross Country Meet in Dubuque on Saturday, November 1. Maas runs cross country for Wartburg College, and finished the six kilometer race with a time of 22 minutes, 9.4 seconds. Maas on her performance in the ARC meet.

GILBERT - The Hampton-Dumont-CAL boys and girls teams ran in the Class 3A state qualifying meet at the Iowa State Cross Country Course in Ames on Wednesday, Oct. 22. It was a great final run of the season, as nine of the 12 runners set a new season's best time, with six of those times being personal records.

NASHUA - West Fork football continued their historic season with a thrilling 25-23 overtime victory over the Nashua-Plainfield Huskies in the first round of the Class A state playoffs. The win was the seventh win of the season for the Warhawks, the most wins in a season in program history. Warhawks' head coach Daniell Westoff on how big of a win that was for the program.
