In front of a raucous student section, the Hampton-Dumont-CAL volleyball team secured a 3-1 victory over Central Springs on Monday night.

H-D-CAL senior Madison Heilskov entered the match needing nine kills to reach 500 for her career.

The Bulldogs took the lead in the opening set and held off the Panthers for a 25-22 victory.

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Belmond-Klemme and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows cross country teams competed Tuesday at the Webster City Lynx Cross Country Meet in Webster City.

District play got underway in Sheffield on Friday Night when BCLUW traveled to West Fork. BCLUW began the game with a first down then a punt. On West Fork’s opening possession, they fumbled at the BCLUW 27-yard line. The Comets would then give the ball back on an interception by Connor Swenson at the West Fork 44-yard line. It would take just 3 plays for Reiker Reimers to score a one-yard touchdown run.

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL football team improved to 1-1 with a 35-13 win over Clarion-Goldfield-Dows on Friday night in Clarion. The game aired on 104.9 KLMJ and RadioOnTheGo’s YouTube channel.

C-G-D opened the scoring on Colin Sesker’s 4-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

The Hampton-Dumont School Board took action on several items during its meeting Monday, including decisions involving district athletic facilities.

It took two overtimes Friday night to settle the season opener between North Butler and West Fork, with the Warhawks outlasting the Bearcats 20-12. The game aired on 104.9 KLMJ and RadioOnTheGo’s YouTube channel.

Neither team found the end zone in the first half as both defenses limited big plays and kept the game scoreless at halftime.

Hampton-Dumont-CAL battled back from a two-touchdown deficit Friday night, but Osage pulled away late to hand the Bulldogs a 22-14 loss in their season opener.

Osage struck for 14 unanswered points early before H-D-CAL began working its way back into the game. Bulldogs Head Coach Cole Miller says his team did not get the start it wanted but responded well after falling behind.

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL volleyball team is back in the gym as the Bulldogs prepare for the 2026 season with an experienced group returning.

The West Fork football team will enter the 2026 season with plenty of familiar opponents.

The Warhawks finished 7-3 last season and advanced to the second round of the Class A playoffs. West Fork went 6-2 during the regular season before defeating Nashua-Plainfield 25-23 in the opening round of the postseason and falling to Saint Ansgar in the second round.

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL football team is preparing for the 2026 season with a mix of returning experience and new faces stepping into larger roles.

The Bulldogs spent the summer developing players through weight room sessions, skill work, 7-on-7 competition and team camp.

The Aplington-Parkersburg girls tennis team spoiled Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s season opener with a 9-0 victory in Hampton.

The Falcons earned their first team win of the season while competing in their fourth meet of the opening week.

The H-D-CAL trap shooting team, known as the “Bird Busters,” took to the field at Stockdale Gun Club in Ackley on Saturday, May 11, where students gave it their all.

Preseason practices have begun for the Hampton-Dumont-CAL baseball team, which is looking to bounce back from last year’s 7-21 record.
This year’s pitching staff will have a different look compared to last year. After graduating most of the starting rotation, several underclassmen are likely to see the bulk of the action on the mound. Head Coach Matt Lokenvitz feels confident in several players to step up to the challenge.

This week’s Athlete of the Week is Beau Morton.
Beau, a junior at H-D-CAL High School, is a member of the boy’s track team, where he throws discus and shot put. His best throw so far has been 55’2,” making him second best in the North Central Conference. His best discus throw has come in at 148’8,” putting him fourth for the conference.

Hazem Hussein came to Hampton-Dumont-CAL from Cairo, Egypt, looking for new experiences and a chance to see more of the world.
Eight months later, he found those opportunities through the Hampton community and local sports.
