ORANGE CITY - The Hampton-Dumont-Cal boys’ golf team finished runner-up in the North Central Conference and runner-up at the sectional golf tournament, qualifying for the May 15 district meet at Orange City.

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs return to the baseball diamond after a 23-9 season that ended in a first round exit from the class 3A district tournament the year before. The Bulldogs must replace some key players to their success the season before. A younger core of players has emerged and will look to fill the shoes of the graduated players.

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs sent three events on the girls’ side and seven events on the boys’ side to Drake Stadium Des Moines for the Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union State Track and Field championships Thursday through Saturday. 

DES MOINES – Leah Weaver ran a personal-best 1 minute, 8.61 seconds on her way to ninth place in the 400-meter hurdles, leading the West Fork track and field teams at the State Meet last week at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
The Warhawks competed in six events at the meet, five on the girls' side and one on the boys. Weaver's finish was the best of the meet for the team and one of two that finished inside the top 10.

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL soccer teams have had success and failures during the year.  As postseason match-ups have been released, it is time for the teams to be at their best if they want a shot at qualifying for the state tournament.  The girls soccer team begins their march for the postseason Wednesday against the Clear Lake Lions at Clear Lake.  The match will begin at 7:00 pm and tickets can be purchased online as the Bulldogs have wrapped u

The Bulldog boys and girls track teams would run at the North Central Conference track meet this past Thursday.  The boys would travel to Webster City, while the girls would head to Fort Dodge.  Boys team would be looking to continue the strong performance and finish the season strong before heading into the district track meet.

The Hampton-Dumont boys’ soccer squad has come a long way under coach Danielle Arana, but still has some distance to go before finishing the season. Going into Saturday the Bulldogs still had at least four games to play, two games in the Waverly tournament Saturday, one against Sumner-Fredericksburg and another against Waverly Shell Rock Go-Hawks, and two more matchups this week, May 8 against Webster City and May 12 against Clear Lake.

That was the attitude for Hampton-Dumont/CAL sophomore Charlee Morton who became the school’s second-ever Drake Relays champion with a victory in the discus Thursday and then doubled-up with a win Friday in the shot put.

The cold and wet weather has set in on Iowa and caused the postponement of some highly anticipated soccer matches. The H-D-CAL boys’ soccer team looked to bounce back with a couple of conference matches against Clear Lake and Humboldt, but mother nature prevented that from happening by bringing cold, wet and windy conditions. An idle week did not hurt the Bulldogs in the rankings, as they continue to climb to eighth place.

A drastic change in the weather made it difficult for the Bulldog track athletes to compete this last week, but the boys and girls each got one chance to compete. The boys were supposed to host a home meet on Monday, but it was canceled due to cold temperatures. The boys found a makeup meet in Brooklyn at BGM on Tuesday. The girls also ran on Tuesday but had their meet at Belmond-Klemme Friday canceled due to weather conditions.

GARNER - West Fork took three event titles on its way to a third-place team finish at the Cardinal Relays at Garner-Hayfield-Ventura High School Tuesday.
Keara Wood won the high jump for the Warhawks while Brecklyn Dickman won the shot put and Leah Weaver was first in the 400-meter run.

Through perseverance and hard work the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldog boys soccer team has come to find themselves a top 12 team in the state of Iowa in class 2A.  The boys have been impressive in their wins this season and faced a true test of their grit this last week.  This past week the H-D-CAL girls soccer team looked to continue to build off an early season win.

Charlee Morton qualified for the Drake Relays in the discuss last week and accomplished the same in the shot put this week.  The boys 4x100, made up of Jack Drier, Tate Murray, Gavin Meader, and Tony Valenzuela, also met the blue standard this week and will be headed to the Drake Relays.  The boys coaches are still hoping that Jack Drier could qualify individually in the 100m dash or the 4x200 could also make it down to run on the blue oval.
