Hampton-Dumont-CAL football will have a different look this year as both offense and defense will be undergoing system changes.
“We want to get better every single day,” coach Cole Miller said. “We need to use every day as a learning opportunity to get better.”
With a solid base of seniors and juniors to build upon, the Bulldogs won’t need to worry about inexperience while learning new playbooks.

For the entirety of its history, Iowa high school basketball was bound by time, but not by time of possession. This has led to several teams taking advantage of their time handling the basketball, with final scores reminiscent of a high scoring football contest.

Before the door can be officially closed on the 2020-2021 season, there is one more accolade earned by the West Fork baseball team. It was not only through play on the field, but also through the exemplary character shown within and beyond the walls of West Fork High School.

Hampton-Dumont-CAL baseball this year was a team that met frustration in a 10-22 record. “We were close and never took that last step to be really good,” coach Matt Lokenvitz said. The team lost 10 games this season where they had a lead or were tied in the fifth inning or later.
Lokenvitz said that despite being a young team, the Bulldogs should have won at least a few of those games.

Despite early postseason exits, the West Fork baseball and softball teams came out with several positives. One of those accomplishments is the development of youth, and the other achievement is bringing home several honors from the Top of Iowa Conference.

Hampton-Dumont/CAL softball met the end to their season in a 12-0 loss at Mount Vernon in the Class 3A Regional Championship on July 12.
The Bulldogs were unable to record a single hit in the loss to the 34-4 powerhouse.
Mount Vernon, a program that has great experience in the postseason, showed that advantage over a young HDC team.

Hampton-Dumont/CAL baseball finished the regular season and played in the first round of districts.
Unfortunately, this would mark the end of the season for the Bulldogs, who would fall to Waverly-Shell Rock on the road on Friday in a 0-6 loss.
On July 12, HDC hosted Humboldt and was defeated, 1-3.
On July 13, the team traveled to Boone and lost, 2-12.
Against Waverly-Shell Rock, HDC struggled at bat.

Hampton-Dumont/CAL faced four opponents this week with postseason quickly approaching.
On July 5, the home game against North Butler was declared a no contest when lightening forced the game to be called off; HDC led 6-2 at the time.
On July 6, the team was defeated by Clear Lake on the road, 4-5.
The Bulldogs lost to Webster City, 3-13, on the road on Wednesday.

Hampton-Dumont/CAL defeated two opponents in Class 3A Regionals to advance to regional championship.
The Bulldogs defeated Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, 5-3, at home on July 6.
Then on Friday, the team hosted Clear Lake and blew them out 12-2.
Against GHV, the Dogs put in two runs to start the game and built upon that lead in the fifth inning.
Up 5-0, HDC was met with resistance from the Cardinals in the sixth inning.

The beginning of last week was looking pretty good for the West Fork softball team. The Warhawks had won two of their last three, and were ready to take on some tough competition in the form of ranked teams such as Newman Catholic and Central Springs.

Six games in seven days. With the end of the regular season fast approaching, the West Fork baseball team is beginning its final push for the postseason.

The Hampton-Dumont/CAL softball team had three games decided by two runs or less.
On June 21, the Dogs lost, 4-6, to Iowa Falls-Alden in Hampton.
The team would secure a win on June 22 at home, defeating West Fork, 4-2.
On Wednesday, the week came to a close with a home loss to Webster City, 3-4.
Against Iowa Falls-Alden, HDC found themselves down 0-4 leading into the sixth inning.

Hampton-Dumont/CAL baseball went through four close matchups this week.
On June 21, the Bulldogs defeated Iowa Falls-Alden, 7-5, in Hampton.
On June 22, HDC hosted West Fork and fell, 3-7.
The team faced Webster City on Wednesday at home and was defeated, 9-15.
Finally, on Thursday, the team played Nashua-Plainfield in Hampton and lost to the Huskies, 3-5.

After wishing Hall-of-Fame head coach Frank Schnoes farewell, the West Fork boys’ basketball program has found their new coach. Fortunately for the Warhawks’ athletic department, they didn’t have to go very far to find their guy.

At the beginning of last week, the West Fork softball team had a rough patch, winning just one of their last three games. Even though the skid continued, the Warhawks were able to return to the win column and gain back some lost ground.
