A road game at West Delaware brought Hampton-Dumont-CAL a loss Friday as the Bulldogs eye the final game of the regular season coming up.
A 20-0 run by the Hawks in the very first quarter was key to the West Delaware win as the Bulldogs found themselves unable to mount an effective defense.

The Hampton-Dumont volleyball team played five games last week. After their North Central Conference match with Iowa Falls-Alden, the Bulldogs (3-20) hosted a Saturday tournament.

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL cross country team competed in the Lake Mills Invitational on Monday, Oct. 4. The meet was run on the Rice Lake Golf Course.

Following a busy week on the cross country course, there’s only a few more meets to go until the great is separated from the good.
While the West Fork girls’ cross country team appears to be on a path to make a run toward the Iowa High School State Cross Country Championships at the end of October at Kennedy Park in Fort Dodge, the West Fork boys’ cross country team is seeing a leader rise in junior Josh Hagin.

Since defeating Rockford at the Nashua-Plainfield Tournament on Sept. 18, the West Fork volleyball team has been in a rough patch.
The Warhawks’ woes continued last week, falling to North Butler in a 3-2 heartbreaker on Sept. 28 at the West Fork High School Gymnasium in Sheffield, before getting swept by Central Springs on Sept. 30 at the Central Springs High School Gym in Manly.

Coming out of the West Fork football team’s Class A-District 2 matchup against North Union, there was good news and bad news.
The good news is that the Warhawks scored the most points in a game so far this season. The bad news is that victory still eludes those who don the West Fork red and black.

Hampton-Dumont-CAL football hosted Nevada on Friday and was dealt a 14-38 loss by the undefeated Cubs.
The Bulldogs had 210 yards of total offense compared to Nevada’s 294 total yards. HD-CAL didn’t give up any turnovers.
Cal Heeren threw 10 completions on 20 attempts and had one touchdown through the air and a touchdown on the ground.
Heeren threw the touchdown to Tate Schmitt from the ten-yard line.

Here’s to better days ahead for the West Fork football team. After getting shut out for its first two games of the season, the Warhawks were finally able to strike paydirt in its latest outing.
Despite the score, the Warhawks had trouble containing North Butler, falling in a 51-7 result in a Class A-District 2 matchup held last Friday night at the North Butler Athletics Complex in Greene.

Even keel is better than nothing.
The West Fork volleyball team won two and lost two this past week, starting with a sweep over Newman Catholic of Mason City on Sept. 7 at the West Fork High School Gymnasium in Sheffield.

Within the camp of the West Fork cross country teams, the Warhawks are sitting in a good spot. There is plenty of room to grow, and if the day is not the best, they don’t have to dip down very far.
At the Belmond-Klemme Cross Country Meet, which took place on Sept. 7 at the Belmond Country Club, the Warhawks saw the emergence of junior Josh Hagins and a strong showing from senior Kacie Eisentrager and the West Fork girls.

Even though the season has started a little slow for the West Fork volleyball team, the Warhawks have been relatively competitive – only having been swept once so far this season. While West Fork split their allotted matches this past week, the Warhawks have potential to become a dangerous squad over the course of the autumn campaign.

Regardless of it’s sports or life itself, you either win or you learn. The past two weeks have been a harsh learning experience for the West Fork football team.
The Warhawks had a hard time getting things going for the second straight week, as St. Ansgar handed West Fork a 67-0 setback in a Class A-District 2 last Friday at the West Fork Football Complex in Sheffield.

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs have had competitive matches in the opening weeks of the season.
The Bulldogs started this year hosting West Fork and defeated them 3-2, rallying from a 0-2 deficit
Then, on Thursday, the HD-CAL hosted fellow Bulldog team Algona.
HD-CAL was beaten in a 1-3 match.
Against West Fork, the Bulldogs competed, but fell behind after losing sets 21-25 and 22-25.

With the rain pouring, Hampton-Dumont-CAL football was down four points with 6:23 left in regulation in Hampton on Friday.
The Bulldogs had just given up two touchdowns to rival Iowa Falls-Alden in the third quarter.
The drama of this year’s “Battle for Bradford” was only magnified with the rain pouring down.
The Bulldogs managed to force a punt from the Cadets at their own end zone, giving great field position.

The Hampton-Dumont/CAL football team decimated West Fork in the season opener in Sheffield on Friday in a 42-0 blowout.
The game stayed close after one quarter, with HD/CAL scoring a touchdown.
But, once the second quarter came about, the Bulldogs exploded with 21 points.
The Bulldogs took advantage of poor offensive execution from the Warhawks
Cal Heeran passed for 140 yards on 7/12 and two touchdowns.
