An area auctioneer has become an award winning auctioneer as Jordan Hansen of rural Latimer brought home a championship trophy from the Iowa Auctioneer's Association Convention.

The H-D/CAL Speech Team sent two performances to the All-State Festival in Ames on Saturday, February 19.

The Hampton-Dumont Board of Education has announced three finalists in its search for the district’s next high school principal. The finalists are Tanner Carlson, Anthony Jones, and Matt Trosky.

The Hampton City Council met for their regular meeting on Thursday, February 10.
Carol Harrison, representing the newly formed Hampton Dog Park Committee, updated the council on their activities. The Franklin County Board of Supervisors laid out the groundwork for a new ordinance regulating the development of wind farms during their regular meeting on Monday, February 14.

Two Hampton businesses received grants from the Greater Franklin County Chamber of Commerce Design Committee on Friday, February 11. Don Warneke of the Blum Building and Kathy Heuer of Rustic Brew were presented checks for recent building improvements. At the Blum Building, Warneke was given $2,000 to go towards a $19,500 roof replacement. At Rustic Brew, Heuer was given $800 to go towards a $1,600 front door replacement.

Area students were recognized by the Candle-stick chapter of the Daughters of the America Revolution at G.A.R. Memorial Hall on Tuesday, February 8. Eli Walton from H-D/CAL, Taniska Daver from West Fork, and Emma Bartling from Iowa Falls/Alden were named the recipients of the DAR Good Citizen Award for the class of 2022.

State Senator Amanda Ragan (D-Mason City) has announced that she plans to not seek re-election following the end of her term this year.

The Hampton-Dumont/CAL Speech Team attended the State Large Group Speech contest in Decorah on Saturday, February 5.
The 67-student team performed 12 events throughout the day, earning eight Division 1 ratings and four Division 2 ratings.

The Franklin County Board of Supervisors has decided to reject a proposed map for new supervisor districts that would dramatically change the make-up of how the county is represented.

Coulter's Freedom Rock sustained some damage in late January after a presumed collision with a snowmobile.
Though it's unknown when exactly the accident happened, the damage was reported on Monday, January 31 after being discovered.
"By the tracks you can tell it was a snowmobile," said Deputy Josh Einspahr, who is investigating the accident.

The Greater Franklin County Area Chamber of Commerce hosted their annual Chamber Appreciate Night on Thursday, February 3 at the Windsor Theatre.
