Lena Mae Winters passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Franklin Country View Nursing Home in Hampton. She was surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in rural Geneva with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be an hour before the service. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sietsema-Atkinson Funeral Home in Hampton. 

On Sunday, May 10, Dale Vern Butson, 69, of Hampton died peacefully at his home surrounded by family and loved ones.
Dale was born on July 28, 1956, in Hampton, to Karl Vernon and Lena (Smidt) Butson. He graduated from Hampton High School and later attended Ellsworth Community College. On November 17, 2001, Dale was united in marriage to Janeen Hetland Powers.

Judy Nolte, 86, of Sheffield, passed away, Friday, February 6, 2026, at Franklin General Hospital, Hampton while under Hospice Care. Memorial services will be held 11 AM, Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Zion St. John Lutheran Church, Sheffield. Burial will be at the West Fork Cemetery, rural Sheffield. Visitation will be 9:30 until the service at the church on May 23.

Pauline Faye Parks, 88, of Hampton, passed away at Country View Nursing Home in Hampton on March 28, 2026. The family will have a celebration of life at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the West Fork United Methodist Church in rural Sheffield. The family welcomes friends and family to join in the celebration.  With honor, Adams Celebration of Life is serving the family. 

John Chaddock III, 81, of Sheffield, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2026, at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home. No public services are planned at this time. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory, Hampton, is caring for John and his family.

Alberta Mae (Van Dyke) Speedy Opperman passed away Thursday, April 23, 2026, at The Rehabilitation Center of Allison. She was born August 15, 1932, in Washington Township, Butler County, Iowa, in a farmhouse near the Washington Reformed Church to Jake and Emma (Reints) Van Dyke. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at the Allison Congregational Church. Burial will be at the Allison Cemetery.

Marvin Fredrick Plagge, 90, of Latimer, passed away Friday, March 27, 2026, at MercyOne Hospital in Mason City. Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 7, at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Latimer. Burial followed at Marion Township Cemetery. Lawrence Winters, 96, of Hampton, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Franklin Country View Nursing Home in Hampton. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Sietsema-Atkinson Funeral Home, with a luncheon and time of fellowship to follow. Jon Craig Schmitt, 70, of rural Sheffield, Iowa, passed away March 19, 2026, at his home following a courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory, Hampton, is caring for Jon and his family. Born May 29, 1955, to Forrest and Roma Schmitt, Jon spent his life in the Hampton and Sheffield area. 

Beverly Viet, 84, of Dumont, passed away Friday, March 20, 2026, at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton under Care Initiatives Hospice. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 27, 2026, at Woodley Funeral Home in Hampton. Ernest Steven Harms, 66, of Hampton, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton. A funeral service to honor the life of our beloved Ernest Steven Harms will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Sietsema-Atkinson Funeral Home in Hampton. Charles Theodore “Ted” Nolte, age 79, passed away in his sleep at Harmony Rehabilitation Center in Cedar Rapids, on Friday night March 6, 2026.  He was born at Hampton, May 1, 1946, son of David J. and Mary Zoe (Ellsworth) Nolte.  He was one of the University of Iowa Hospital’s “Polio kids” – diagnosed at age 3 in 1949, leaving him with a paralyzed leg and a lifetime wearing a “brace”.  

Nathan Louis Eilers, 89, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2026,at CentraCare Hospital in St. Cloud, MN. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., March 14 at First Congregational Church in Hampton. He will be laid to rest at the Dumont Cemetery following the service. A public visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time.

Janet Lockwood, 87, of Sheffield, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Belmond. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Zion St. John Lutheran Church in Sheffield with burial to follow. Visitation will be an hour before the service.
