As summer rolls on and the new school year approaches, Hampton-Dumont and CAL administration and staff are preparing for several Return to Learn scenarios depending on the status of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The students on Saturday, June 27 celebrated an abbrevi-ated 2020 Prom, which was originally scheduled for early April but was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Franklin County Law Enforcement Center grounds recently received a living memorial in honor of a man who dedicated his life to the safety of residents throughout the county.
The Hampton Tree Board late in June planted a bur oak tree dedicated to former Franklin County Emergency Management Coordinator Jason Harper, who passed away last month at the age of 53.
The tree will soon be ac-companied by a plaque.

Live music once again filled Band Shell Park last Tuesday as the Hampton Municipal Band celebrated the beginning of its 99th year.
Hampton’s hub of live music had been relatively quiet so far this summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but thanks to some social distancing measures and determination, the Hampton Municipal Band was able to fill that void for a few minutes.

Dancin’ with Roxie from Friday, June 19 to Tuesday, June 23, hosted four dance recitals outdoors in Iowa Falls, Ankeny, Hampton and Clear Lake.

The Sheffield City Council held a special meeting Monday night and decided that the community swimming pool will be opening for the season on Friday, June 26.
The Council also adopted a resolution regarding the pool’s season rules, regulations and fees for the 2020 season.
The pool will be open from 1-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. each day. It will be closed from 4-5 p.m. for deep cleaning and sanitizing.

A new shopping destination in Hampton is set to open next week.
Hy-Vee Stores on Tuesday, June 30 will celebrate the grand opening of the Dollar Fresh store in Hampton, located in the former Shopko building.
Dollar Fresh is a newer format store introduced by Hy-Vee in 2018 targeted towards smaller communities with retail needs.

The Geneva Betterment Committee went forward with a modified version of the twice-annual Geneva Market and shoppers responded in spades.
Tonya Sanders, President of the Geneva Betterment Committee, said between Friday, June 19 and Saturday, June 20, nearly 2,700 shoppers visited the old Geneva school grounds to find unique items and participate in now-rare outdoor summer fun.

The Hampton Rotary Club and the Greater Franklin County Chamber of Commerce on Friday, July 3 will team up to bring a modified edition of its annual fireworks show.
