A Hampton man and a passenger were taken to the hospital following a rollover crash Thursday afternoon.

The Hampton Police Department says 84-year-old Don Moore was southbound on Highway 65, or 4th Street Northeast, around 1:46 p.m. when his 2022 Buick Encore crossed the centerline and struck the north side of the bridge rail in the 300 block.

The Hampton City Council met in regular session Thursday and approved a few items, including changes to the city’s telephone system and a cemetery tree planting project.

West Fork crowned Evie Hitzhusen and Andrew Baker as its 2026 homecoming queen and king as the school celebrated its homecoming last week.

Hitzhusen, the daughter of Jeremy and Lindsay Hitzhusen, has been involved in track and field, cross country, softball, basketball, band, National Honor Society, Student Council and football cheer. She plans to major in kinesiology and compete in track and field in college.

The first installment of 2026 property taxes is due later this month, and property owners are being reminded to make sure payments are received or postmarked by the deadline to avoid a penalty.

Hardin County Treasurer Machel Eichmeier says the first installment is due Wednesday, September 30.

A post-election audit in Franklin County has confirmed the accuracy of results from last week’s Hampton-Dumont School District special election.

Franklin County Auditor Katy Flint says the required audit was conducted Monday, with a hand count matching the election-night results from voting machines.

SHEFFIELD — After 48 years of service with Sukup Manufacturing Co., Dan Hubka is beginning a new chapter following his retirement.

Hubka’s connection to Sukup began in 1978, when his father, Donald Hubka, was hired as a service man in March of that  year. At the time, the family moved to town, and Dan was a junior in high school working at Target.

A Manly man wanted on two Franklin County warrants has been arrested in Mitchell County.

HAMPTON — Hampton-Dumont High School art teacher Nicole Nelson has been named the 2026 Iowa Art Educator of the Year, recognizing her dedication to students, visual arts and the broader education community.

HAMPTON — Veterans and families gathered Wednesday, Sept. 2, for the third and final Veterans Picnic of the year, held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., despite unexpected rain in the morning and hot, humid conditions.

Adam Akers, executive director of Franklin County Veterans Affairs, said he was happy with the turnout and that the veterans who attended had a great time.
