Knipfel signed to Bengals’ practice squad

CINCINNATI – A day after being dropped from the 53-man roster by the Cincinnati Bengals, Hampton-Dumont graduate Josh Knipfel was signed to their practice squad on Sunday, Sept. 6.

Knipfel was one of several undrafted free agents that went unsigned by the Bengals. In fact, the team kept no undrafted rookies on its’ initial roster.

It was the first time since 2016 that the Bengals made such a move, but according to SBNation, the squad attributed it to COVID-19 and being able to fully evaluate all of the players for a good length of time. The article further stated that Knipfel, Trey Dishon and Marcel Spears Jr. likely had a shot had it not been for the virus.

The next day, Knipfel, the 6-foot-5, 305 pound offensive tackle out of Iowa State University, became one of 14 players signed to the practice squad, which will ready the NFL team for game days.
