Knipfel signed to Bengals’ practice squad

CINCINNATI – A day after being dropped from the 53-man roster by the Cincinnati Bengals, Hampton-Dumont graduate Josh Knipfel was signed to their practice squad on Sunday, Sept. 6.

Knipfel was one of several undrafted free agents that went unsigned by the Bengals. In fact, the team kept no undrafted rookies on its’ initial roster.

Knipfel signs free agent contract with Cincinnati Bengals

HAMPTON – A mere few hours after the 2020 NFL Draft ended, Hampton native Josh Knipfel signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday, April 25.

His phone started to blow up with texts and messages of well wishes right after the announcement.

“It’s been pretty crazy,” Knipfel admitted on Sunday afternoon. “I’ve been getting messages, notifications, it’s been a great 12 hours.”

The Bengals were the one team that Knipfel said he thought he might have a chance with.

Knipfel hopes to follow NFL dream as draft weekend approaches

HAMPTON – Everything that has happened the last month and a half most definitely wasn’t part of the plan for Josh Knipfel.

First, his girlfriend Savannah Sanders and her family lost their house to a tornado near Nashville, Tenn., on March 3 and he was unable to go out and help with the clean-up that he says took about a week while preparing for a Pro Day which eventually was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

To put it plainly, Knipfel said, “It’s been a crazy month and a half.”

Certainly, he isn’t the only college player to have his Pro Day canceled.

Fitting finish: Knipfel caps Senior Day with wild win against Kansas

AMES – A 41-31 win against Kansas in which the lead changed six times for Hampton native Josh Knipfel during Iowa State University Senior Day was described by him as ‘fitting.’

“I think with all of the seniors, that is the Iowa State way: it’s never easy winning at Iowa State,” Knipfel said of the way his final home game went. “It was a fitting moment. Back-and-forth. The only way we should have gone out.”

Head coach Matt Campbell said that the way the Senior Day game went could have been the emotion of the day, but he didn’t want to use that as an excuse.
