Secretary of State Pate Visits Wright County, Highlights Youth Voting and Veteran Support

Iowa Secretary of State Paul D. Pate made a stop in Wright County last Tuesday, meeting with both students and veterans as part of his ongoing efforts to promote civic engagement across the state.
Pate’s first visit was to Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School, where he spoke with students about the Carrie Chapman Catt Award, an initiative from the Secretary of State’s office that encourages voter registration among young Iowans. He urged students to recognize the power of their vote and its impact on their communities, reminding them that civic responsibility begins early.
“Even if you’re under 18, you’re already contributing to society, you pay taxes, you’re part of your community, and your voice matters,” Pate told the students.
Following his visit to the school, Secretary Pate and his team traveled to Dows, where they met with members of the local American Legion. The discussion centered on making sure that veterans have the resources and access they need to participate in elections.
Pate shared practical tips with the group, such as how veterans without a permanent address can use their local courthouse address on voter identification forms. He also encouraged community-driven efforts like organizing carpools to help veterans reach polling places on Election Day.
The Secretary of State ended his visit by pledging to follow up with local representatives about several concerns raised during his conversations with Wright County veterans.
