Poet Takes First in Franklin County Farm Bureau Breakfast Battle

Hampton - Teams from area businesses and organizations competed on Thursday, March 20 at Fareway in Hampton in the Franklin County Farm Bureau Breakfast Battle.  Central Park Dentistry, First Bank Hampton, First Security Bank Hampton, Franklin County Extension, Franklin General Hospital, Franklin Ministerial Association, Franklin REC, JT Machine & Tool, Poet and Sukup all had teams of 2 people vying for the trophy. 

  Teams started the morning with an ag trivia competition to earn bonus time off their race total.  Then they drew their grocery lists and had one minute to prepare their plan.  After that, all was chaos for about ten minutes in Fareway as the teams raced around trying to purchase breakfast, dinner, and supper for a family of four based on recipes provided.  They could pick up additional items trying to get their grocery totals between $55 and $60.

  The trophy went to first time winner, Poet, this year with Franklin General Hospital a close second. The traveling “Cereal Bowl” trophy will be displayed at Poet until next year’s race.  All groceries were provided to Franklin County Food Pantry and La Luz Food Pantry in Hampton and West Fork Food Pantry in Sheffield and distributed to local families that day. Thanks to Franklin County Extension office for contributing cookbooks for the families and to the staff at Fareway for always helping us host a great race!
