New Shade Trees Planted at Beeds Lake

The members of the Hampton Tree Board and Beeds Lake State Park Manager Alivia Fergus teamed up to plant four new trees at the park Thursday afternoon, May 22.
They planted a swamp white oak, a chinkapin oak, a scarlett oak and a lyndin oak.
Fergus told the Chronicle that she was glad they were putting in some new trees, as many of the park’s trees had recently been taken down due to the infestation of the emerald ash borer. Not only will the trees be providing shade at the park, but she appreciated the fact that the tree board selected a diversity of tree species to avoid another widespread infestation.
“We really appreciate them coming out here and planting trees this spring,” she said.
The tree board members are winding down for the planting season, but member Randy Sanders said they are always looking for volunteers to help water, mulch and prune recently-planted trees throughout the summer. If interested in volunteering, contact Sanders at 515-681-1826.
