Five students from Hampton-Dumont-CAL Middle School recently found out that their artwork was selected for the annual youth art show at Jordan Creek Mall in West Des Moines.

The following students were selected:

  • Mackenzie Sauls - Jellyfish

  • Henry Leca- Owl

  • Willow Eastman- Tim Burton-inspired snowman

  • Kambri Chaplin- Sharks

  • Daisy Zamorano- Clay gnome hut

Hundreds of pieces were submitted for consideration this year, and these students were among the 100 that were selected for the show.

Their artwork is on display in the lower level corridor by Von Maur and H&M, and the show will conclude on March 28 with a short ceremony.

Seventh grader Daisy Zamorano told the Chronicle that she comes from an artistic family. In fact, her older sister, Ruby Zamorano, was also selected for this year's show. She said they were both inspired to draw at home by their father, who enjoys doodling in his free time.

For her most recent project, she started by looking at Pinterest for inspiration. Once she saw a photo of a clay mushroom, she knew she had her idea.
