Have You Tried JJ’s Bar & Grill?

Business is booming once again at the former Stumble Inn in Bradford, which now goes by JJ’s Bar & Grill. The mastermind behind the recently-opened operations: Jessi Dietz, with help from her boyfriend and co-owner, Jamie Ubben.

Dietz, a 2002 Hampton-Dumont High School graduate, has worked in restaurants her entire adult life. In kitchens. Behind bars. Serving customers. But she was ready to be her own boss, so when the Stumble Inn restaurant opened up for new ownership this past summer, she went for it, renting out the place from Kristi and Bruce Gorder and renovating the building before finally opening up for business on Sept. 29. And they have been non-stop busy ever since opening their doors, she said.

“We haven’t had a slow day yet,” she told the Chronicle. "I've barely been able to keep up."

But she does, putting in around 80 hours each week. She does it all, from planning the daily specials to working the grill. Her co-owner, Ubben, also helps with much of the work, including running to the store whenever they get low on suppplies. The dynamic duo also have a small team of employees, including a daytime waitress named Jodi, who used to work for Stumble Inn. Jodi is one of several employees who continued to work there once the new owners took over.

"She is a great boss," Jodi said of Dietz.

Together, the two work the restaurant during the lunch hours — just the two of them, most days.

"We have a great chemistry, and we know what the other one needs," said Dietz.

Dietz is set on giving her customers the best experience possible, making most of their items from scratch, including their delicious pies and other baked goods, which are usually gone by the end of the day. Their menu features wings, wraps, sandwiches and burgers — one such burger, “The Hangover,” is topped with cheese, hashbrowns, bacon and egg.

“I’m so hard on myself when it comes to this place because I care about it so much," she said. "And I know I’ve got some crazy ideas, but the employees are willing to help me with them, and that’s why I love them so much.”

One of their greatest achievements since opening their doors may be their newly-acquired liquor license, which they received on Thursday, Oct. 23.

"It took a lot of work, so we were relieved," said Dietz.

They immediately ran out to the store to stock up on beer and liqour after getting the news, she said.

JJ’s Bar & Grill, which is located at 107 2nd St in Bradford, is closed on Monday and open Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 9 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 9 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
