Hampton-Dumont-CAL Girls Sports Year in Review

Here is a year in review of the 2025 Hampton-Dumont-CAL boys sports season. Basketball and wrestling reviews are based on the 2024-25 seasons and do not take into account the current basketball and wrestling seasons.

Basketball: Girls basketball had a really strong season, as they finished 21-3 overall and 10-2 in conference play. The Bulldogs defeated Clear Lake in the first round of the Class 3A - Region 6 playoffs 46-41 on Feb. 15, and Iowa Falls-Alden in the second round 63-44 on Feb. 19. The Bulldogs season came to an end when they lost 49-31 to Estherville Lincoln Central in the third round on Feb. 22. Jordan Valley led the Bulldogs with 11.7 pints per game, 3.5 assists per game and 4.2 steals per game. Lily Hambly led the team with 11 rebounds per game while MacKenzy Valley led the team with 0.5 blocks per game. Jordan Valley was selected to the all-conference first team, while Hambly and Brooklyn Valley were selected to the all-conference second team.

Wrestling: The 2024-2025 season was the first season in program history for the HDCAL girls wrestling team. The girls competed in their first ever dual on Nov. 11, 2024, winning that dual 30-24 over Webster City. Maren Subbert was the lone Bulldog to qualify for the state tournament. Suber made it to the quarterfinals of the state tournament before losing.

Soccer: Girls soccer went 0-14-1 and 0-9 in conference play. The Bulldogs' lone tie came when they tied Belmond-Klemme 0-0 at home on April 7. The Bulldogs lost 5-0 to Webster City in the first round of the Class 1A Region 8 tournament on May 19. Ayleen Rodriguez led the Bulldogs with two goals scored on the season, and Mallory Rieken recorded the team's lone assists on the season. Madison Heilskov saved 182 sots and allowed 68 goals for a 72.8% save percentage.

Track and Field: Girls track and field had a strong season, led by Charlee Morton, who won her third straight state championship in the shot put throw and finished third overall in the discus throw. The highest the girls finished in any meet on the season was when they finished fourth in the Rolan-Story Coed Meet on April 4 and the Don Hoppel Coed Relays on May 5. Lily Hambly qualified for state in the 400m hurdles and finished in 16th place at the state meet.

Golf: The Bulldogs lone first place finish was in a NCAA triangular versus Clarion-Goldifled-Dows and Webster City on April 25. The lowest the girls shot was when the shot 220 at the Ackley Country Club on May 1. Kenzie Moorhead had the lowest nine-hole average on the team, averaging 51.5 shots per round.

Softball: The softball team finished 6-17 overall and 5-9 in conference play. The Bulldogs lost to Center Point-Urbana 16-4 in the first round of the Class 3A Region5 tournament on July 10. Charlee Morton led the team with a .426 batting average, 26 hits, seven home runs and 23 runs batted in.Kendall Eilderts started all 23 games in the circle for the Bulldogs, pitching to a 6-17 record with a 4.21 earned run average and 89 strikeouts in 140.1 innings pitched. Morton was selected to the all-conference first team and Mallory Rieken was selected to the all -onference second team.

Tennis: The Bulldogs girls tennis team went 1-8 on the season and 1-7 in conference play. The Bulldogs' lone win non the season came when they defeated Charles City 6-3 on Aug. 19. Jade Johnson led the Bulldogs with three matches won.

Volleyball: The volleyball team went 4-23 and 2-5 in conference play. The Bulldogs season came to an end when the lost 3-0 to Roland-Story on Oct. 21. Madison Heilskov led the Bulldogs with 564 attacks and 224 kills. Kenley Hansen led the team with 244 assists. Addison Aalbers led the Bulldogs with 197 digs while Maren Subbert led the team with 57 blocks. Heilskov was selected to the all-conference first team, while Subert was selected to the all-conference third team.

Cross Country: The highest the girls cross country team placed was when they finished third in the Lake Mills XC Meet on Oct. 6. The Bulldogs lowest team point total would also come in the Lake Mills Meet as they scored 59 points. Mackenzy Valley finished 27th overall in the state qualifier race.
