Franklin County Relay for Life Scheduled for Sept. 13

Lisa Rodriguez has been hard at work on the upcoming Relay for Life event, which is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Franklin Wellness Center.
The annual event, which is set to run from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., will feature the following:
—Captain Carter and Captain America with the Iowa League of Heroes, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
—Spiderman and Superman with Team of Legends, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
—The Funky Pepperoni and El Taco Riendo
—Mugs from Creative Laser LLC (to customize them them ahead of time, visit “Creative Laser LLC” on Facebook)
—Free indoor games for children
—Resources for caregivers and cancer survivors
The event will commence with an opening prayer from Pastor Kevin Earleywine from St. Patrick Catholic Church, and Jennifer Walton will be honored as the honorary caregiver and Oz Guerrero as the honorary cancer survivor. In honor of Oz, who passed away last month, Franklin County Relay for Life Chair Lisa Rodriguez encourages everyone young and old to wear superhero costumes or to dress as their personal superheroes.
“If your mom is your superhero, dress as your mom!” she said. “We just want to make this fun and remember Oz since he was an honorary cancer survivor.”
Rodriguez wanted to thank everyone ahead of time for attending and everyone who has helped make the event possible.
“This is my first go-around here,” she said. “I’ve never planned an event like this before, but it’s in God’s hands now. I hope we can honor our cancer survivors and caregivers in a special way.”
