Franklin County Relay for Life Brings in $64K to help Fight Cancer

The Franklin County Relay for Life team has been helping fight cancer for more than 20 years, bringing in money for cancer research and programs that benefit patients who reside in Franklin County and around the country.
Since the start of the year, they have raised a total of $64,774.79, with help from their many partners and sponsors. They held their annual Relay for Life event at the Franklin Wellness Center earlier this month, where they recognized the late Oz Guerrero as the honorary chair and Jen Walton as the honorary caregiver, along with other local caregivers and survivors.
“I didn’t think we were going to meet our goal as of two weeks ago, but we did, and I’ve very grateful to the residents of Franklin County and anyone who’s donated,” said Franklin County Relay for Life Chair Lisa Rodriguez. “It’s truly amazing.”
Now, the group is planning a public meeting to review how they’ve done so far this year. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 805 Pizza and Chicken. To RSVP, text Lisa Rodriguez at 641-512-9049.
“We want to look at the pros and cons of how we’ve been doing things,” said Rodriguez. “We need to decide if we’re going to continue doing things as we have been for the last 20 plus years. Or do we want to revamp and try something totally different? That’s where the community’s input would be helpful. We’d like to hear what they have to say.”
All of this year’s proceeds from Franklin County Relay for Life’s efforts will go towards the American Cancer Society.
