Hampton City Councilor Jerre Grefe was awarded with a certificate from Greater Franklin County Chamber of Commerce Director Bill Hittle, who nominated her for Main Street Iowa's annual leadership award, during the April 22 city council workshop.

"It is an honor!" Grefe said. "When I retired from nursing and my job in Des Moines my plan was to immerse myself into the community. I love giving back and supporting Hampton every way I can."

Hittle wrote that "Jerre has a real passion for Main Street Hampton" in his application for her nomination. He explained that the award was meant for someone “embodied Main Street America, revitalization, volunteerism.”

“I put in Jerre Grefe, as she has a business downtown. She’s got a new business and she’s redoing that new business. She volunteers for more than anyone probably knows,” Hittle said during the meeting.

Grefe owns First and Second Vintage and First and Second Vintage Too! and she's an active member of the community, often volunteering her time to help others. She recently helped organize a city cleanup of Hampton's downtown district.
