Bulldogs Drop Three Matches in Quad at Humboldt

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls wrestling team competed in their first quad of the season at Humboldt on Monday, Nov. 17. The Bulldogs dropped all three of their matches in the quad, falling 54-18 to Lake Mills, 52-24 to Humboldt and 36-24 to Iowa Falls-Alden. Despite losing the matches, the Buldosg got closer and more competitive in each match, decreasing their margin of defeat each ensuing match. Head coach of the Bulldogs, Brittany Stevens, discussed the progression the girls made throughout the night.
"It was the first competition of the season for the girls, and with that is a lot of nerves and excitement that can get in the way," Stevens said. "The girls did a great job of working through it and became more comfortable as the night went on. We had some great matches and learned a lot. Despite a few setbacks and having to give up a few more forfeits than we were planning on, I was very impressed with their fight. They never gave up and had high energy and spirit."
Coach Setevns discussed how she loved her team's energy cheering on their teammates throughout the night.
"Each girl has to play their part," she said. "It can be hard after an individual loss, but the real goal is to bounce back and keep the team going strong to get the victory in the end. The team captains set the tone, and Maren Subert is one of the captains who is really doing a great job of leading by example. The girls gave it their all, and cheered on their teammates with infectious positivity. The girls are building a strong team that values teamwork."
The Bulldogs also competed in the Lady E-Hawk Wrestling Tournament at Emmetsburg High School, as they put up a solid performance, finishing in fourth place overall out of 13 teams with a score of 119.5. The Bulldogs also competed in the North Central Conference Quad at Lake Mills High School on Monday, Nov. 24. The Bulldogs next meet, will be their home meet on Thursday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m.
