The Hampton-Dumont boys and girls golf teams both finished fourth out of four teams in the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadet invite on Wednesday, April 17. The Bulldogs girls finished with 481 total strokes. The Bulldogs lowest scorer was Kenzie Moorehead who shot 107. Moorehead shot 58 on the front nine before shooting 49 on the back nine, which was the third lowest overall score of any nine holes in the tournament. The next lowest score for the Bulldogs was Keely Moorehead who shot 117. The third lowest scorer for the Bulldogs was Elise Kupler who shot 120. Bulldogs head coach Dustin Moorehead spoke on the challenges his team has faced through the first two meets and how they have performed.

“The courses are challenging themselves but when you add the extremely windy and cold weather our playing conditions have been really tough,” said Moorehead. I have been proud of our girls so far this year. They have great attitudes and want to learn every day. Our goal at Highland was to try to improve our scores from the first round and four out of the six girls did that and the other two were really close.”

The Bulldogs boys finished with a total of 383 strokes. The lowest scorer for the Bulldogs was Charlie Showalter, who shot 86. Showalter shot 42 on the front nine, which was the fourth lowest overall score of any nine holes in the tournament, before shooting 44 on the back nine. The Bulldogs next lowest scorer was Sean Heilskov, who shot 94. The third lowest score for the Bulldogs was Dawson Wiekert, who shot 100. Bulldogs head coach Trevor Eiklenborg discussed his team performance up to this point this season and some improvements his team needs to make.

“I like how much passion the boys have for the game of golf,” said Eiklenborg. “It is rare that they do not put in an hour or two more work on the course after we end practice. Some things we must work on are our short game around the greens. Ridgestone and Highland have much bigger greens than our home course, and that is something we struggled with.”

The Bulldogs girls next meet will be on Friday, April 25 at 4:30 p.m. at the Hampton Country Club while the boys next meet will be on Friday, April 25 at 4:30 p.m. at the Oak Ridge Golf Course.
