Beyond discussing the mail delivery situation in SW Hampton, the Hampton City Council addressed regular items of business during their meeting on Thursday, June 10.

At the meeting, council member Steve Birdsall presented his nomination for June's Image of Pride Award. Birdsall selected a 2nd Ave NW property owned by BP Rentals and rented by tenant Katelyn Elscott as this month's recipient based on the work that both owner and tenant have done in sprucing the property up.

"He did significant upgrades," said Birdsall. "It just looks good sitting there."

The council also approved the appointment of Rick Janssen to serve on the Hampton Public Library's Board of Trustees. Janssen will fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Ben Fridley and carry out the rest of his term through June 30, 2023.

For summer events, the council approved a street closure request from La Luz Centro Cultural to block off the streets around Band Shell Park from June 25-26 for Gran Festival.

In other business, the council approved a construction contract bond for the PCC Reconstruction Project in the amount of $313,343.30. The bond will cover OEL Construction Services' bid for the project, which was accepted during a meeting last month.

Last week's meeting will be the last council meeting hosted at the Franklin County Law Enforcement Center. Starting in June, the council will resume meeting at their regular location in Hampton's City Hall.
