Hampton Public Library Receives $10K Donation

 The Hampton Public Library recently received some exciting news: they, along with every other Carnegie library in the country, will be receiving a $10,000 donation from the Carnegie Corporation of New York at the start of next year.

Hampton Public Library Director Suzy Knipfel told the Chronicle that she couldn’t believe it at first, saying she thought it was a scam email. So, as any good librarian would do, she did her research, reaching out to her contacts at nearby Carnegie libraries and representatives at the Carnegie Corporation of New York, where the original email came from. And much to her delight, it was all true.

“It seemed too good to be true!” she said. “But it was and we are very grateful.”

Knipfel said they are free to use the funds however they see fit, so long as they’re going towards anything library-related. She said the board will decide how to use the funds.

"The library trustees and staff are thrilled to be getting this unexpected gift,” she said. “We are just really, really excited about it.”

Dame Louise Richardson, President of the Carnegie Corporation of New York, released the following statement regarding the donations, which were given in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary: “On behalf of the foundation, thank you for the many ways you serve your communities. My hope is that this gift serves as a recognition of your commitment, our founder’s legacy, and the importance of this milestone in our nation’s history.”
