Betty L Butt

Betty L. Butt, 96 of Hampton went home to Jesus on Friday, November 28th.  Betty went peacefully under hospice care at home. Funeral services will be at 10:30, December 6, at Hampton Church of Christ in Hampton. She will be laid to rest at the Harlan Cemetery following the service. A public visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Friday December 5, at Woodley Funeral Home, in Hampton. Woodley Funeral Home of Hampton is caring for Betty and her family.

Betty Butt was born Betty Lou Lewis on December 12, 1928, in rural Cambridge, Iowa, to Wilma and Milferd Lewis. She graduated in 1946 from Gilbert High School in Gilbert, Iowa.  After graduation Betty moved to Alexandra, Va where she lived with her sister Marilyn and worked as a telephone operator. She later transferred to Ames, Iowa to work for Northwestern Bell.  While living in Ames she met and married Fabian Stanton in September 1951.  Five children were born to this union: Dennis, Dale, Teri, Alan, and Barbara. In 1958 Betty was baptized at the Church of Christ in Union where the family was living.  In 1965 this marriage was dissolved at which time Betty moved with her 5 children to Iowa Falls.  She became a member of the Hampton Church of Christ in Hampton where she taught Sunday School for 2 and 3-year-olds and was president of the ladies group.  In Iowa Falls she worked a variety of part-time jobs before going to work at Dodger Manufacturing in Eldora in 1976 where she worked for 17 years before retiring.  On August 6, 1977, Betty was united in marriage to Verle Butt in Hampton, IA.  With this union Betty gained four more children: Lanette, Raymond, Cindy, and Ricky.

Those left behind to miss her are sister Shirley Caslavka, children Dennis (Debby) Stanton, Dale (Becky) Stanton, Teri Cywinski, Alan (Eadie) Stanton, Barbara (Brian) Miller, Lanette Butt, Raymond (Rhoda Negron) Butt, nieces/nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Verle Butt, parents Milferd and Wilma Lewis, sister Marilyn Rackley and brother-in-law Ronald Rackley, sister Elaine Snyder and brother-in-law David Snyder, Harriet Tresemer and brother-in-law Donald Tresemer, brother Orlin Lewis, brother-in law Donald Caslavka, daughter through marriage Cindy (Butt) White, son through marriage Ricky Butt, daughters-in-law Sharon Stanton and Shelly Stanton, a niece, nephew, 2 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild.
