Hampton Youth for Christ Director Seeks Volunteers

Hampton Youth for Christ started in Hampton in 2009 for the high school and 2014 for the middle school and it continues to grow.

HD-CAL YFC Director Tara Friedl said the YFC program has played an important role in her life, which is why she took over as director at the start of the school year.

Friedl oversees the weekly meetings for middle schoolers and high schoolers, which take place at the Hampton YFC office at 420 4th St. SE Hampton Iowa. Middle schoolers meet on Wednesdays at 2 p.m. and high schoolers meet on Mondays at 6 p.m.

“Youth for Christs hosts small groups, one on one for students, and we also host engaging activities with the students and do community service projects,” Friedl said.

Earlier this week, middle schoolers filled up boxes for “Operation Christmas Child,” which will provide Christmas gifts to children in need overseas. The high schoolers will be participating in a “Rake and Run,” which is where they rake the yards of local residents and pass out cookies. Middle schoolers are also doing a small group where they come together and watch “The Chosen” and then reflect on what was in the show and how it connects to the Bible. Friedl said the high schoolers like to share a meal before their weekly meetings, and they’re always looking for donated meals.

“We invest in the next generation of students and give them an opportunity to learn more about Jesus,” Friedl said. “So it’s important for the community to help invest in these students so we can do that.”
