Warhawk softball gets offensive during bit week

SHEFFIELD – The West Fork High School softball team had a big week at the plate, averaging 15 runs per game in victories over Rockford, AGWSR and Northwood-Kensett.

The Warhawks downed Rockford 15-3 Wednesday as JoAnna Wallace went 2-for-2 with a home run, a double and five runs batted in and Brooke Rother went 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs. Preslee Dickman and Keelee Sheriff also had two hits as West Fork out-hit Rockford 13-3. Libby Trewin was the winning pitcher, striking out six while allowing three hits.

The Warhawks jumped ahead of AGWSR with a 10-run second inning and put things away with a seven-run fourth on their way to the 17-5 win. Rother slammed two more home runs and drive home five for the second straight game while Wallace also went deep for the second straight game and drive home three. Dickman had three hits while Trewin, Wallace, Rother, Breckyn Dickman, Sheriff and Mallery Meier had two hits each.Trewin struck out six in the winning pitching effort.

Rother picked up her first varsity pitching victory, striking out nine while holding Northwood-Kensett to a single hit in a 13-0 Warhawk victory. Rother, an eighth-grader, also had two hits and four RBIs, giving her 14 RBIs on the week. Trewin also had a pair of hits.

The Warhawks (10-4 overall, 4-3 Top of Iowa Conference East Division) hosted Newman Catholic Monday. They played at Hampton-Dumont-Cal Tuesday and are at Central Springs Wednesday before hosting a doubleheader against Saint Ansgar Friday.
