Board of Education Names 3 Finalists for Next Hampton-Dumont High School Principal

The Hampton-Dumont Board of Education has announced three finalists in its search for the district’s next high school principal. The finalists are Tanner Carlson, Anthony Jones, and Matt Trosky.

As activities director in the Central City Community School District, Carlson oversees all middle and high school activities, including athletics, clubs, and fine arts. He is responsible for hiring coaches, budgeting and overseeing purchases, and providing administrative support for multiple events each week. Carlson previously served as

an instructional coach and at-risk coordinator in Central City CSD, as well as a social studies teacher.

Jones currently serves as a middle school science teacher and athletic director in the Southwest Valley Community Schools, where he also coaches baseball, basketball, football, track, and wrestling. His work has included creating professional development workshop materials centered on learning goals and classroom management, while also helping to develop a school-wide curriculum focused on standards-referenced grading

and engaging learning activities for social studies. He has also taught in the Sumner-Fredericksburg Community Schools.

Trosky is a social studies teacher at Clear Creek Amana High School in Tiffin, Iowa. There, he developed a blended learning course in American history and worked with his colleagues to select new textbooks and identify major components of the school’s future curriculum. He also taught study skills to at-risk students in grades 9-

12. Before that, Trosky was a student-teacher at Prairie Point 9th Grade Academy in Cedar Rapids and Springville Secondary School in Springville.

The Hampton-Dumont Board of Education has been working with Grundmeyer Leader Services to conduct the search. As a next step, the board and stakeholder interview teams will conduct final interviews with each of the three finalists on Tuesday, February 15. The board plans to then discuss the candidates and reach a final decision soon after the formal interviews.

The new principal will begin leading Hampton-Dumont High School effective July 1, 2022.
