Warhawks put up points, fall to North Union on Senior Night

Coming out of the West Fork football team’s Class A-District 2 matchup against North Union, there was good news and bad news.

The good news is that the Warhawks scored the most points in a game so far this season. The bad news is that victory still eludes those who don the West Fork red and black.

In a Senior Night matchup against the Warriors, the Warhawks couldn’t overcome an early deficit before falling in a 50-20 result in a district clash held last Friday at the West Fork Football Complex in Sheffield.

Although West Fork’s offense had improved as of the past few weeks, the Warriors had no troubles against the Warhawks’ defensive unit.

The Warhawks fell to 0-6, with a 0-5 record within the district. North Union improved to an even keel record of 3-3 overall, with a 2-3 league record.

Next for West Fork is a trip due northward, as the Warhawks will square off with Newman Catholic, set for a 7 p.m. kickoff at the Newman Catholic Football Field. The Knights (4-2, 2-2 in district) defeated Lake Mills in a 53-25 decision last Friday in Lake Mills.

Despite striking paydirt in the first quarter, West Fork trailed 22-6. By halftime, that deficit expanded to a 43-6 advantage for the Warriors.

North Union scored again in the third quarter, holding a 50-6 lead heading into the final stanza. The Warhawks dished up two touchdowns in the final quarter, but couldn’t bridge the gap before time ran out.

Sophomore Sage Suntken had a solid outing at quarterback, going 12-of-21 for 171 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Suntken also rushed for 33 yards on 24 carries.

Junior Trevor Guritz caught four passes for 52 yards and a touchdown.

Junior Josiah Chibambo led the Warhawks on the ground, gaining 81 yards and a trip to paydirt on 19 carries. Chibambo also caught a single pass for 12 yards, and led the Warhawk defense with eight tackles.

Senior Nate Hubka captured two tosses for 39 yards, followed by senior Dakota Lau’s three receptions for 36 yards. Senior Jaxon Mclemore caught a pass for 25 yards, and came out with four and a half tackles.

Senior Deven Showalter left the game with five tackles against the Warriors.

Freshman Bradyn Blair provided a glimpse into the future, rushing for 55 yards and a touchdown on a single carry. Blair also caught one pass for seven yards, and had one and a half tackles for West Fork.

Junior running back Bryer Prochniak, who ran for 163 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries, led North Union. Prochniak also reeled in a 78-yard interception return for a touchdown, ran back a kickoff for a 80-yard touchdown and amassed four tackles.

Junior quarterback Carter Morphew went 6-of-9 for 61 yards and one touchdown, while rushing for 33 yards and another score on three attempts.

Senior Aiden Fries snagged four passes for 27 yards and one touchdown, and sophomore Landon Hagedorn picked up 26 yards and one touchdown in four attempts. Fries also recovered a fumble, and picked up six and a half tackles.

Junior Aric Arndorfer had one and a half sacks, followed by one sack from senior Izaak Martens.
