West Fork girls’ cross country team fares well at Garner, Hampton

Following a busy week on the cross country course, there’s only a few more meets to go until the great is separated from the good.

While the West Fork girls’ cross country team appears to be on a path to make a run toward the Iowa High School State Cross Country Championships at the end of October at Kennedy Park in Fort Dodge, the West Fork boys’ cross country team is seeing a leader rise in junior Josh Hagin.

The Warhawk girls topped the field at the G-H-V Invitational, which took place on Sept. 27 at Garner Golf Course, and finished third at the Bulldog Invitational, held on Sept. 30 at Mayne’s Grove, located south of Hampton.

The West Fork boys settled for fifth in the land of the Cardinals, and landed in 10th out of an 11-team field in Hampton.

Next up for the Warhawks was the Dick Bell Invitational, which took place this past Tuesday at the Eagle Grove Golf Course. On Thursday, West Fork will finally have its chance to host the West Fork Invitational, set for 4:15 p.m. at Linn Grove Country Club in Rockwell.

Results from the two meets will be posted in an upcoming edition of the Pioneer-Enterprise/the Sheffield Press.

Senior Kacie Eisentrager made waves at both meets, placing second overall in Garner and finishing 12th overall at Mayne’s Grove. Junior RaeLynn Nash, freshman Tarah Rukdashal, freshman Leah Weaver, Senior Mycah Weaver, sophomore Olivia Jones and junior Maddy Welbus also enjoyed top 20 finishes in Garner.

Rukdashal, Leah Weaver, Nash and Mycah Weaver also finished in the top 25 in the land of the Bulldogs.

Hagin continued to impress, placing seventh in Garner and finished within the top 30 in an ultra-competitive boys’ race. Sophomore Dylan Sturges took a top 20 finish in Garner.

Seventh grader Evie Heitshusen also kept up in her domination of the field, finishing second overall in the girls’ side of the G-H-V Invite and at the Bulldog Invitational. Teammate Elle Harms recorded a seventh place outing in Garner and a 12th place finish in Hampton.

Seventh grader Max Martinek paced the middle school boys in both meets, finishing eight overall in Garner and placing 15th in the field in Hampton.
