Tree Board plants in East Park

Dick Lukensmeyer, Ron Raney, Rick Rieken, Randy Sanders, Philip Strand, and Patti Walker planted 30 trees in Hampton's East Park on Thursday.
The Hampton Tree Board celebrated Earth Day by planting 30 trees in East Park on Thursday, April 22.
Sugar Maples, Swamp White Oak, Swamp Bur Oak, Northern Catalpa, Northern Red Oak, White Pine, Eastern Red Cedar, Cathedral Elm, and Red Bud were among the variety of trees planted by the group. By planting a wide variety of trees, the group hopes to mitigate the risk of damage from pests like the Emerald Ash Borer.
"Diversity is the key to longevity," said Randy Sanders.
The trees were donated by First Security Bank at the behest of Market President Ron Raney. Planting them along the east and west bank of the creek, the trees will take the place of several trees that were lost during the last creek project.
"We're happy to donate to reestablish these trees," said Raney.
