Sharon Rae Smit, 79, of Sheffield, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at MercyOne North Iowa Hospice in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 5, 2022, at First Grace Baptist Church in Sheffield, with burial in the Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, December 4, 2022, at First Grace Baptist Church in Sheffield. Counsell Woodley Funeral Home of Sheffield is caring for Sharon and her family.

Sharon was born on September 16, 1943, in Clarion, to Melvin and Eva (Pletcher) Peyton. She married Harold McCaslin on July 23, 1960; to this union four sons were born: Terry, Kevin, Danny and Timmy. Sharon then married Dale Smit on December 17, 1988, in Sheffield. He preceded her in death in 2003.

Sharon worked for Marshall & Swift in Mason City and for the Sheffield Care Center as a CNA until she retired.

Sharon enjoyed cooking, card games, puzzles, Karaoke, and spending time with her family. She absolutely loved to go camping, where she enjoyed the outdoors, the beautiful sunsets, and being around others. Sharon spent over twenty years camping in Bay City, Wisconsin, with her family and many lifelong friends she grew to know and love.

Sharon will be missed by her sons Terry (Penny) McCaslin of Sheffield and Kevin (Sara) McCaslin of Rockford, brother Mark Peyton of Arizona, brother-in-law Pete Marsh of Lincoln, Illinois, grandchildren Genny (Caleb), JC (Jill), Kyle (Cassie), Abby (Nick), Chris (Kristin), Brianna (Jordan), and Logan, eighteen great-grandchildren, along with many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale Smit, sons Danny and Timmy, two brothers and one sister.
