Saylor Foundation Named Organization of Year by Chamber

The Saylor Foundation was recently named the Organization of the Year by the Greater Franklin County Chamber of Commerce.

The foundation — which was started in the late ‘70s by the original owners of First Bank Hampton, Alvin and Helen Saylor — has given away well over one million dollars to local non-profits over the years.

It's currently being led by Nancy Boyington and Dave Heuberger.

According to Heuberger, they have donated to an array of area organizations and projects over the years, including the Dumont Legion Post, La Luz Centro Cultural, the Franklin Wellness Center, the Hampton Senior Citizen Center, the Franklin County Fair for their new bleachers, the ProStart program at H-D-CAL high school, the Latimer Development Corporation for trees, the Chamber's summer flower project, the Windsor Theatre, the Hampton American Legion Post for their flag project, the Franklin General Hospital Foundation, the Friends of Beeds Lake and the Cruisin' & BBQin' event in Hampton last summer. Some of these groups are given to regularly.

Heuberger said this foundation was started as a way to give back to those in the community — something they look forward to continuing.

When asked to describe the Saylors, he said they had big hearts.

Heuberger said there is no formal application to request funding from the foundation. If interested in requesting funding, community members can contact First Bank Hampton at 641-456-4793.

Heuberger also noted that the funding is only available to those with a 501C3 status, which has to be verifiable. He also asks for a description of the project to anyone reaching out with a funding request.

The Saylor Foundation will be recognized during the Chamber of Commerce's annual Appreciation Celebration on Friday, Feb. 14 at the Franklin County Convention Center. (Tickets can still be purchased by calling Center One at 641-456-5668.

“We are very honored and even humbled by this award,” said Heuberger. “We will continue to give back.”
