Ronald Dean Viet, 85

Ronald Dean Viet, 85, of Dumont, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton under Care Initiatives Hospice. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Woodley Funeral Home in Dumont. A private family graveside service will be held at the Dumont Cemetery. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory of Dumont is caring for Ron and his family.

Ronald Dean Viet was born July 23, 1938, on the family farm in Franklin County, son of Peter and Arlean (Hopkes) Viet.  He attended school in Hansell.  On June 5, 1960, Ron was united in marriage to Beverly Ritter at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.  To this union, two children were born: Donald Dean and Dawn Ranae.

Ron served in the U.S. Army National Guard and was honorably discharged on June 1, 1963.  When he was young, Ron helped his dad on the family farm before working several welding jobs.  He retired from Terex in Waverly after welding for 34 years.

Ron enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing and playing cards with his friends on Saturday afternoons.  In his younger years, him and Bev spent their time dancing in Dumont, Janesville and Iowa Falls.  Those who knew Ron knew his routine; he’d hop in his little red S-10 Chevy pickup and go to J&C Grocery in Dumont for groceries, Kwik Star for his lottery and scratch-off tickets, and then he’d stop at Dave’s Garage to shoot the s***. Ron loved his family, but his great-granddaughters held a special place in his heart. His face lit up every time he saw them.

Ron is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years, Beverly Viet of Dumont; son Donald (Donna) Viet of Hampton; grandson Coleman (Tiffany) Kangley of Minonk, Illinois; grandson Ethan (Jessica) Viet of Hampton; granddaughter Carlee (Tanner) Bohman of Latimer; four great-granddaughters: Braelynn Ranae and Vera Jane Kangley of Minonk, Illinois, and Kinsley James and Beckham Lynn Viet of Hampton; sister Sharon Uhlenhopp of Hansell; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Dawn Ranae Kangley; and brothers Gerald (Kathryn) Viet and Galen (LaDonna) Viet.

Memorials may be directed to the Viet family.
