Dick was born in Hampton, Iowa, on Christmas day in 1953 to Leroy and Marilyn (McCormick) Miller. Dick was known for his kindness and generosity. He never failed to offer a friend or family member a hand, say a kind word, or donate to an important cause.

He was an avid runner and bicyclist. He loved riding his motorcycle, playing cribbage with friends, and reading about American history. As a child, he would dig tunnels in the snow with his sister and play in the haymow. He was a member of 4H and FFA. In high school, he wrestled and served as class president his senior year, having been elected by his classmates without even campaigning. He graduated in 1972, and then went on to Iowa State University where he was a member of the AGR fraternity and majored in farm operations. He graduated in 1977, though he continued to go to their football games often.

After graduation he went to work for the Federal Land Bank, before returning to farming in 1988 when his father passed. He also worked for several years in winters for the USDA. He continued farming until his retirement this year. Church was always a part of his life, from attending Sunday school, to confirmation, to serving for 10 years as the Trinity Lutheran Church’s treasurer.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Joyce. He is survived by his sister Jolene and her husband Bob, his niece Michelle and her husband Andrew, and his niece Serena and her son Milo. Dick has left the impact of kindness on many hearts and is described by many friends as one of the nicest people they have known.
