Mildred “Milly” Hendrickson

Mildred “Milly” Hendrickson, 92, of Hampton, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2024 at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory of Hampton is caring for Milly and her family.

Milly was born April 21,1931, daughter of Edward and Emma (Reinking) Berghoefer. She graduated from Hampton High School in 1949, then worked as a telephone operator in Hampton and California. In 1956 she married John Hendrickson who was a Pearl Harbor survivor. They moved to New Jersey where John worked in sales and Milly worked as a secretary for a defense contractor, In the early 1960's they moved to southern California where Milly worked in the retail grocery field for many years until retirement.

While in California, John and Milly were active in the Pearl Harbor Survivors group. Milly loved animals, having numerous horses and dogs. She especially loved Greyhounds, rescuing several racing dogs. In 2006 she moved back to Hampton to be near family and rescued two more Greyhounds, Amber and later Brandy.

Milly is survived by brothers Clifford (Ruth) Berghoefer, Delbert (Linda) Berghoefer, sister-in-law Carolyn Berghoefer, six nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; John Hendrickson, husband of 43 years, and brother Leonard Berghoefer.

Milly graciously donated her body to Mayo Clinic in Rochester. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
