Martha Wallace

Martha Wallace, age 82, passed away Friday, June 27, 2025 at Parker Place in Parkersburg. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Friday, July 18, 2025 at Woodley Funeral Home in Hampton. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Martha will be laid to rest with a graveside inurnment at the Hampton Cemetery. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory is caring for Martha and her family.

Martha Elaine Wallace was born in Hampton, Iowa to Merle and Anna Mae (Keninger) Wallace. To her close friends and family, she was known as Elaine. She was a kind, generous and vibrant spirit who enjoyed a fulfilling childhood as a hardworking farm girl on her family farm north of Hampton. Martha attended Hampton School and went on to study at the University of Iowa, where she became a member of Mensa. She graduated with a degree in sociology

After college, Martha lived in various places across the United States including: Virginia, Maryland and Texas, before eventually settling in Denver, Colorado. There, she worked for many years as a legal secretary for several prominent law firms. When she returned to Hampton, she completed her career at Sukups in Sheffield. She had a passion for Scottish dancing, horses, history and world travel, and she held a special fondness for Oxford, England, where she immersed herself in British culture and history. Martha was proud of her Scottish heritage and was a member of The Scottish Heritage Society of Iowa in Des Moines.

Martha was an active volunteer and a dedicated advocate for individuals with disabilities, including her loving daughter, Lorraine (Lorri). In 2000, she returned to the family farm of her childhood to care for her elderly mother and to be with Lorri. She lived in Hampton for the rest of her life, where she enjoyed reading her extensive library of books, caring for animals, visiting friends, and exploring Europe. She held a position on the Access Board for many years in Hampton.

Martha Elaine Wallace will be deeply missed by her friends, family, surviving daughter, Lorri, many cousins from the Wallace and Keninger families and close friends from Colorado and Iowa who she held dear to her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Anna Mae Wallace.
