The local Knights of Columbus held their first of three fish fries for the Lent season on Friday, Feb. 20, at St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Ryan Winters, Todd Speedy, Sue Garrett, Tom Burman, Jim Davies and Jim Garrett with the Knights of Columbus met up in the church kitchen that morning to begin their work, starting with squeezing 150 pounds of Alaskan pollock, before preparing the dining room and then eventually frying all of the fish.

The night was made possible with help from other church members, as well as students from Hampton-Dumont High School, who could be seen walking around and offering drink refills and picking up plates.

That evening, community members stopped by for delicious dinner prepared by the Knights — fish, with a side of fries, doctored up baked beans, rolls, and ice cream. The entry fee was $16 per person, with all of the proceeds going towards special projects, such as coats for children, pregnancy centers, St. Patrick's food pantry, scholarships for church members, special Olympics, natural disaster relief and more.

One of the event coordinators, Jim Davies, told the Chronicle that the event was a success, and that it didn't take long to serve up all their food.

The next two fish fries are scheduled for March 6 and March 20.
