WAVERLY – West Fork graduate Jacob Kuhlemeier had a solid opening game during the opener of Wartburg College’s Buzz Levick home tournament on Friday, Nov. 15.
Kuhlemeier, who looked like he was battling a cold while being seen holding back a cough on the court, was the first off of the bench against Iowa Wesleyan, an 82-69 win. He missed the finale, a loss against Cornell.
“I’d say it’s just a minor cold,” Kuhlemeier said. “I’m feeling pretty good now.”
Before the start of the tournament, Levick was honored in front of the home crowd.
Against Iowa Wesleyan, Kuhlemeier logged 19 minutes and made an immediate impact, going from trailing early to a lead. He tallied a couple of rebounds, a layup and an assist within the first minute and a half he was in the game.
Overall, Kuhlemeier was 4-of-5 from the field for eight points, nabbed five rebounds, two assists, two steals and blocked a shot.
“I just try to play my role and I think I did a decent job at it that game,” Kuhlemeier said. “I’m pretty comfortable coming off the bench. It was what I was expecting, so it’s not bad.”
So far, the Knights are 3-1. They opened with a win against Cornell in which Kuhlemeier led the team in scoring with 16. His presence was missed against the Rams in the Buzz Levick tournament in an 86-69 loss.
In his last season, Kuhlemeier’s personal goal is team-oriented.
“My goal is to help the team win any way I can,” Kuhlemeier said.
