After more than a year of searching for a donor, the Montes family can finally breathe a sigh of relief, as Teodoro Montes of Hampton received his new kidney earlier this month, on Nov. 3.

Teodoro, who was in kidney failure, had been receiving dialysis on a daily basis when he finally received the news that he would be getting a new kidney.

"We feel very blessed and excited for his second chance at life," said his wife, Marlene Montes.

Teodoro is the father of five beautiful children: Ema, Yanessia, Brian, Amarely, and Teo.

He and his family enjoy spending time outdoors together, and Teodoro loves to fish and play baseball — things that had been put on the back burner when he began receiving daily dialysis.

“He’s everything to us,” said Marlene. “He’s my best friend. He’s my everything. I just want him healthy.”

Marlene and Teodoro got married through the church two days before the operation took place.
