Hampton hosts classic car show

A total of 122 classic cars lined the streets around Band Shell Park on Sunday, August 29 for the annual classic car show.

"We've got everything from motorcycles to Corvettes to original 1930 roadsters," said Jeff Spear, who organizes the show along with his wife, Tracy.

The show technically began on Friday with a car cruise, but the threat of rainy weather suppressed some of the turnout. By Sunday though, the weather had turned around dozens of car enthusiasts from across north Iowa, some even coming from as far as Minnesota, flocked to Hampton to show off their rides.

"We got a good crowd," said Spear.

In spite of the storms earlier in the week, the Sunday afternoon weather was perfect for the car show with warm temperatures and a light breeze to enjoy as people voted for their favorite car.

"We were blessed to have this weather," said "It worked out really well."

Along with appreciating the various vehicles, the show also offered a selection of vendors and food trucks.

This year's car show was extra special as it celebrated the life of long time supporter, Norm Holm.

Holm was a longstanding part of the group, often serving as the event's emcee. Holm's son, Mike, took over emcee duties as the rest of his family served up "Norm-Rite" sandwiches in his honor.

"He was an all around great guy," said Spear. "He loved cars and loved people."

The car show has been an ongoing tradition for decades now and even continued last year during the pandemic. For this year, Spear says the support has been even better.

"I couldn't believe the overwhelming support of our show sponsors," said Spear. "Everybody really stepped up this year."
