Hampton City Councilor Kevin Blanford, 52, has been busy juggling his day job as a health, safety and environmental specialist for AgVantage FS with his car detailing company, Beyond Spotless Auto Detailing, which has been thriving.

Since last spring, he has cleaned more than 300 cars.

Blanford is a pro when it comes to car detailing. He started his first car detailing company in 1997 in Illinois, before selling it ten years later when he moved to Iowa.

“In the past year, I’ve seen the need for car detailing in the area, so I reached out to some friends, and told them I’d be doing it, and started in March of last year, and I’ve done about 315 vehicles since then,” he said.

Blanford said the cost of his services depends on the state of the car, and that he once spent up to 12 hours cleaning a car that was in really rough shape. He said interior details and exterior details start at around $160 and that full details (interior and exterior) start at about $300. He cleans all types of cars, from work trucks that are caked with dirt and pebbles to vans that are filled with cheerios and other crumbs left behind by kiddos.

While some people will do anything to get out of cleaning their car, Blanford said he loves it. He’s got a lot of the latest gadgets and potions to get even the dirtiest of vehicles back in tip top shape. He steams, vacuums, adjusts seats, wipes down and waxes until he feels that the vehicles are up to his standards.

Blanford, whose company is licensed through the state of Iowa, is big on little details. He said he remembered that one of his customers had named her car “Lola,” so when her keep was cleaned up and ready to return, he messaged the customer saying “Lola” was ready.

That customer was local Lori Craighton, who said her car looked like it came off the showroom floor after he was done with it.

“It’s evident that Kevin takes great pride in his work,” Craighton said.

Blanford said he’s promoted his business in two ways: word of mouth and on social media. He said that a lot of times, people will send him a private message on Facebook and then they will coordinate from there.

To keep up with inflation, Blanford said his prices will increase in July due the fact that he’s spending more money on products, which have become more expensive.

To reach him about his car detailing services, email beyondspotless2023@gmail.com or call 641-456-7002. You can also send him a private message on Facebook. His business is located out of his house in Hampton at 454 11th Ave. NE Hampton, IA 50441.

Blanford will serve as the city councilor for Ward III until 2027. He encourages citizens in his ward to reach out to him with any questions or concerns they may have about the area by calling 641-456-7002 or by sending him a message through the email forum portion on the city council page on the city’s website.
