H-D/CAL Drama presents spring musical

The H-D/CAL High School Drama Club presented "A California Surfer in Cleopatra's Court" this weekend.

Performing on Friday and Saturday evening at Church of the Living Word Auditorium, the play told the tale of a time-displaced surfer navigating the politics of ancient Egypt intermingled with popular songs from the 1960s.

The play featured Kale Folkerts as Brody the surfer; Elle Westhoff as Annette and Cleopatra; Carter Lahner as Stick and Pothinus; Jonah Bollhagen as Frankie and Mark Antony; Emma Aalbers as Delores and Arsinoe; Royse Adair as Ditzy and Hathor; Michael Rosenberg as Beachcomber and Gluteus; Nik Leland as Maximus; Courtney Ringleb as Candy and Herneith; Katie Hilton as Dee Dee and Ahaneith; Jaelyn Hickman as Terri and Neferteri; Sydney Buseman as a lifeguard and courtier; Mario De La Cruz as a lifeguard; Lydia Maas as a beachball and a courtier; Isabelle Schwab as a surfer girl and courtier; and Matthew Walrod as a shark and a courtier.

Supporting the play behind the scenes were crew members Derek Hanna, Lily Mason, Liberty Whipple, Riley Heeren, Max O'Dell, and Benji Sauke. Music for the play was performed by a pit band featuring Keely Craighton, Gavin MEader, Joan Philgreen, and Chris Sauke.

The play was directed by Tammy Morris with musical direction from Katelyn Elscott.

"The students did really well and all of their hard work paid off," said Elscott. "It was a blast to work with them these last few weeks."
