The Franklin County Board of Supervisors adjusted the county's sick leave policy with a resolution amending the county handbook during their regular meeting on Monday, December 27.

Under the new policy, employees may now use sick leave to attend routine medical and dental appointments, provided that their department heads are notified as far in advance as possible. For unexpected absences, employees must notify their department heads prior to the start of the work shift and indicate the nature of the absence and how long they expect to be out. Absences of three or more days will require a physician's note and possibly additional documentation.

The new policy also expands on the amount of sick leave that can be used to care for immediate family members, removing the previous seven day limit.

Sick leave must be approved by department heads and employee abuses may be subject to discipline.
