Members of the Hampton Tree Board and the Franklin County Conservation Department teamed up to put the finishing touches on Rolling Prairie Trail last Thursday morning, Aug. 21.

Hampton Tree Board member Randy Sander said this was their final phase of maintenance at the trail this season. After mowing, weeding, spraying herbicide throughout the summer, they spent the rest of the morning pruning and mulching.

The trees along the trail were originally purchased with a Mid-American Energy Grant.

“This is all about making sure these trees are healthy,” said Sanders. “The maintenance is the hard part."

Sanders was happy to share that they’re almost sold out of trees for their treeline program for the fall. For the program, the group purchases $100 to $200 trees and sells them to people in the community for $50. After planting them, they help take care of them. They also make sure to educate people on proper care for the trees.
