Evelyn R. Rodemeyer, 96

Evelyn R. Rodemeyer, 96, of Latimer, passed away Friday, January 27, 2023, at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Latimer, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Latimer. Counsell Woodley Funeral Home of Hampton is caring for Evelyn and her family.

Evelyn was born on December 16, 1926, in Scott township, Franklin County, Iowa, to Chris and Johanna (Sorenson) Jensen. She was baptized and confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Coulter. Evelyn attended Scott township country school for eight years and graduated from Franklin Consolidated in 1944.

Evelyn was united in marriage to Alwin Rodemeyer on September 19, 1945. To this union two children were born, Arlene and David. Together they farmed southwest of Hampton for three years, then moved in 1950 to a farm northwest of Latimer, until they retired to Latimer in 1987. Evelyn and Alwin celebrated seventy-one years of marriage on September 19, 2016, shortly before Alwin passed away.

Evelyn was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Latimer and was a member of the LWML. She enjoyed traveling, camping, golfing, playing cards, working on jigsaw puzzles, reading, gardening, cooking and baking. She also enjoyed playing her organ.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Arlene Lawson of San Diego, California; son, David Rodemeyer of Webster City; grandchildren, John (Ashlee) Lawson III, and Rebecca (Brian) Friesen; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Preslee Lawson, and Stella and Weston Friesen; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alwin, five brothers, two sisters, son-in-law John Lawson II, and sister-in-law Carlotta Rodemeyer.
