The Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls soccer team lost their match vs the Clear Lake Lions by a score of 7-0 on Wednesday, April 30. It was the Bulldogs second matchup of the season vs the Lions, losing to them 8-1 the first time they played. After the Lions scored two quick goals in the first ten minutes of the game, the Bulldogs defense was able to settle in and hold them scoreless the remainder of the first half. Bulldogs head coach Brian Schlatcher said that Clear Lake is one of the better teams and offenses they will face all season and is proud of his team's defensive effort in the first half. “Defesnively, honestly that’s one of the best games we played,” said Schlatcher. “Clear Lake is a powerful team and they can score a lot of goals in a hurry, so a lot of credit to our defense.” After the Lions took a 2-0 lead into halftime, they would add five more goals in the second half to secure their 7-0 victory. Coach Schlatcher was again impressed with goalkeeper Madison Heilskov’s game, despite seeing constant pressure. “Madison is just playing lights out,” he said. I don’t know if I have seen a better goalie this year.” The loss dropped the Bulldogs record to 0-6-1. They had to forfeit at Charles City on Friday night. They play at Webster City on Monday and their next game is Thursday, May 8 at Humboldt at 5:30 p.m.
