DES MOINES – Jack Showalter and Jakyb Kapp finished second at the Corn Cob Wrestling Nationals held at the Jacobson Building on the Iowa State Fairgrounds held Saturday, March 14.

A third Bulldog wrestler, Jaycob Martzahn, finished fourth.

The folkstyle tournament had a 1,000-wrestler limit in the 15-18 age division and is grouped by age and not grade. The winner of each division earns The Golden Corn Cob trophy, boys’ divisions from second to sixth place earn a custom medal. Girls second and third place also earn and custom medal. This year, a mom’s division was added and also earned a custom medal for second and third place.

According to Bulldog head coach Patrick Hansen, each of the three defeated a state qualifier either in Iowa or Illinois and only lost in close matches to state medalists from various states.
