Bernice Borcherding, 97

Bernice Borcherding, 97, of Hampton, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at Franklin Country View Nursing Home in Hampton. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hampton with burial in Hampton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:30 a.m. prior to the service at church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sietsema-Atkinson Funeral Home in Hampton. 

Bernice was born on December 12, 1925, in rural Latimer, Iowa, to Albert and Maggie (Olk) Keehn. Bernice grew up on the family farm in rural Latimer with her brothers Willis and Kenneth and attended Latimer School. During World War II, she worked at the Hemp Mill Factory in Hampton that produced fiber for making ropes. Bernice was united in marriage to Kenneth Borcherding on January 22, 1950. They lived on a farm in rural Hampton where they raised four children, Dennis, Julie, Dan and Jim. Bernice loved to bake, spend time tending her beautiful flower gardens and was always ready for a challenging game of Five Hundred. Her greatest joy was to spend time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by son Dennis (Raelene) Borcherding of Hampton, daughter Julie (Randy) Rhodes of Springfield, Illinois, son Dan Borcherding of Coulter, son Jim (Teri) Borcherding of Highland Park, Illinois, grandchildren Erin (Phil) Kramer, Emily Borcherding, Dusty (Vicky) Borcherding, Ty (Angela) Borcherding, Alli Borcherding, Jack Borcherding and eight great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

 Bernice was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, parents Albert and Maggie Keehn and brothers Willis and Kenneth Keehn.
