Anita Mason

Anita Mason, 92, formerly of Aredale/Dumont, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at Franklin Country View in Hampton. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the Harlan Cemetery in rural Dumont, Iowa. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sietsema-Atkinson Funeral Home in Hampton. 

Anita was born on March 5, 1933 to Richard and Edna (Parker) Arends. She attended school in Hampton.

Anita married Dwayne Mason, January 25, 1951. They were married nearly 74 years! You would never see them without each other.

Anita and Dwayne lived in the country outside of Aredale. She was a farm wife busy raising her five children. After Dwayne retired they moved into Aredale. Anita was on the town council for many years. You would see them making the loop around the big town. They enjoyed fishing and going to surrounding farm and flower auctions. They enjoyed anyone stopping over for a visit. The grandkids always knew the cookie jar was full. Forty years later they moved to Dumont until moving into Country View in the fall of 2024. Anita enjoyed dancing and would grab anyone nearby to dance along with her.

Anita is survived by her 5 children. Tim (Cora) Mason, Patty Havig, Greg (Kay) Mason, Kevin Mason, Kirk Mason. Sisters Loretta Morgan, Janice Krull, brothers Richard Arends, Terry (Linda) Arends, Roger (Steffi) Arends. Anita had 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Dwayne Mason, parents Richard and Edna Arends and step-father Chris Muhlenhaupt, sister Nadine Gram, sister-in-law Sharon Arends and brothers-in-law Neale Freese, Raymond Gram, Arthur Morgan, Eugene Eveland, Roger Krull, son-in-law Kenny Havig, grandsons Bryan Walsh and Chad Mason.
